|a This article takes a look at the first stages of the research that I have dedicated to the life and work of the mathematician Julio Rey Pastor (Logroño 1888 - Buenos Aires 1962). I will show their genesis in 1982, the gradual beginning after 1986, the consolidation after 1994 and that it was made until 2000, although the research work on the subject has continued and remains open. I will highlight the advances during those almost twenty years in knowledge of personal and scientific biography of Rey Pastor, sometimes acting individually and others jointly, including the historical analysis of some of his works and pointing also unfinished tasks.

|a Este artículo es un recorrido por las primeras etapas del trabajo de investigación que he dedicado a la vida y la obra del matemático Julio Rey Pastor (Logroño 1888 - Buenos Aires 1962). Mostraré su germen en 1982, el inicio paulatino a partir de 1986, la consolidación después de 1994 y lo realizado hasta 2000, aunque la tarea investigadora sobre el tema ha seguido y sigue abierta. Destacaré los avances producidos durante esos casi veinte años, actuando unas veces de modo individual y otras en equipo, en el conocimiento de la biografía personal y científica de Rey Pastor, incluyendo el análisis histórico de algunas de sus obras y señalando también tareas inacabadas.
