The sokamuturra, the roped bull or ox, is a version of the running of bulls or oxen which has been and continues to be hugely popular in the Basque Country. For Donostia-San Sebastian it was the identifying element of the inhabitants of the old quarter. The prohibition of it by the City Council in 1902 sparked riots recalling those of the Ancien Régime. At the same time, the debate surrounding oxen gave visibility to various arguments of a social nature. La sokamuturra, el toro o buey ensogado, es una versión del correr toros o bueyes que ha tenido, y sigue teniendo, una enorme popularidad en el País Vasco. Para San Sebastián fue un elemento de identidad de los habitantes de la vieja ciudad. La prohibición por el Ayuntamiento en 1902 supuso el estallido de un motín que recuerda a los del Antiguo Régimen. Asimismo, la controversia en torno a los bueyes dio visibilidad a diferentes debates de carácter social. Sokamuturra, sokako zezena edo idia, Euskal Herrian ospe handia izan zuen eta gaur egun oraindik arrakasta duen aktibitate bat da. Sokamuturra, zezenak edo idiak lasterka ikus daitezkeen bertsio bat da eta iraganean Donostiako alde zaharreko biztanleentzat nortasun elementu bat izan zen. Udalak 1902. urtean sokamuturra debekatzea erabaki zuen eta ondorioz Antzinako Erregimeneko altxatze bat gogorarazten zuen matxinada bat sortu zen. Halaber, idien inguruan sortu zen eztabaidak, gizarteari lotutako beste debate batzuk plazaratu zituen. |
